"A nice place"

Letting people use my home as a short term rental has been a pretty great opportunity, allowing others to experience my hometown like a local, providing reasonable accommodation to visitors, and offsetting a few bills along the way. And most visitors have been fantastic and respectful of my home. The emphasis there is on 'most'.  This May we had a renter that wasn't.

Lauren's rental was pretty easy to start with, coming in on a Saturday and scheduled to leave on a Monday. She claimed one extra guest on her reservation, and in the first few hours, by way of the entry camera, we noticed there was a third woman in their party. Not really a big deal, as my house has three beds.  I was even excited when they extended their stay an extra night.  When they checked out on Tuesday, it was the mess left behind throughout the house and especially the beds that led me to go back and check the entry camera during their visit.

They even had a gentleman friend help them load in for their stay.

Rolling back the tape revealed the ladies had a pretty steady stream of gentleman callers who'd come and stay for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, and who'd leave our lady guests with a nice hug and some cash.  Since they had such a good stay, they are looking forward to renting my place out again using one of the other lady's accounts.   Film below.

Our short term rental manager was notified, and Lauren's account was quickly blocked, but honestly, there's not much we know about the other people or the accounts they might create with whatever false or real identification they present.  We'll continue to watch for these ladies when they check in, and should we find they allow third parties in the house, we'll let the third parties know they're trespassing. Our blog here will be a record of those trespassers as well.
